On September 17, Chaoyang Park in Beijing played host to an international charitable fair, Love Knows No Borders, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China with assistance from diplomatic missions of various countries and companies in China. The Uzbek pavilion mounted by the Uzbek Embassy in China with support from the Fund Forum drew a large number of people attending the major fair. The proceeds from the fair will go toward reconstructing low-income villages of national minorities in mountainous areas in Yunnan province.

On September 16, the Center of National Arts in Tashkent hosted Azerbaijan Day organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tashkent and the Fund Forum as a run-up to Azerbaijan’s Independence Day to be celebrated on October 18. The artistic and thematic exhibitions held as part of the event enabled those gathered to get a taste of the country’s rich culture and history.

The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing on September 15 hosted the second International Culture Festival, with the Fund Forum doing a presentation of Uzbek culture. The organizers gave the festival the goal of creating a platform for a dialog among various cultures and broadening UIBE students’ overall knowledge.

GULI label showed its Spring-Summer 2012 Collection as part of New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The show, which turned out the most talked-about event of New York Fashion Week, took place according to the schedule of the Fashion Week on September 15, 2011 at 12 a.m. following a joint communiqué issued by GULI Collections team and IMG WORLDWIDE, INC. The runway show took place at Cipriani Restaurant, which has hosted fashion showcases by big-name designers such as Mark Jacobs.

Tashkent’s Turkiston Palace on October 5 will host a concert by the CIS Youth Symphonic Orchestra under the baton of prominent Russian conductor Vladimir Spivakov. The concert will conclude the orchestra’s tour of Belarus, China and Uzbekistan. Organized by the Fund Forum, the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS and the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic, the orchestra will perform classical works.

On September 5-9, at Tashkent’s Salus Vita medical center a prominent Russian heart surgeon, Viktor Dovgan, examined 99 children with inborn heart disease and 15 children previously operated on at a St. Petersburg hospital. Based on the medical checkup results, 11 children with grave conditions have been selected for free treatment in St. Petersburg (Russia). The charitable campaign was held as part of the Family Health Project overseen by the Fund Forum and the Women’s Council with support from the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

The Fund Forum announces the start of its annual project – Pedagogical Grants Programme. Applications may be submitted from October 1 to January 1, 2012. The programme is open to teachers of secondary schools and high schools, lecturers of higher educational institutions as well as heads of higher educational institutions of all levels. Winners will be awarded prize money.

On August 31, New York’s Wall Street, the megacity’s financial center, hosted a ceremony to raise the flag of Uzbekistan in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the country’s independence. Organized by the Fund Forum and the General Consulate of Uzbekistan, the ceremony was attended by around 200 people, including officials of several public organizations, the business community, journalists and members of the Uzbek diaspora many of whom were dressed in national clothes.

Novosibirsk Museum of Arts is housing a photo exhibition titled “On the Sunny Side” commemorating the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence. The organizers of the exhibition are the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk (Russia), the Fund Forum Representative Office and Jahon News Agency.
