Bukhara to host Avicenna readings

On December 16-17, Bukhara will host the 4th Scientific and Practical Conference “Avicenna Readings” on the theme of “The Legacy of Avicenna and Modern Medicine”, which will focus on the implications of the eminent 11th-century doctor and polymath’s medical legacy for the development of modern medicine. The conference, to be organized by the Fund Forum, Avicenna International Association of Traditional Medicine and Ibn Sino – Avicenna International Fund, will be attended by specialists and scholars from the CIS and other foreign countries.

On December 8, Palais de Nations (Palace of Nations) in Geneva played host to a meeting to commemorate the 19th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Constitution, organized by the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan. The event included a presentation on the Fund Forum’s activities, which was attended by over 50 heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Geneva such as the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the UN Conference on Trade and Development, the WHO and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Organized under the auspices of the Fund Forum and Russia’s Ministry of Culture, the live concert by artists from two of the world’s cultural jewels has become a dream come true for hundreds of opera enthusiasts in Tashkent on the threshold of the New Year.

As many as 150 young gymnast girls will compete in Snezhinka (Snowflake) calisthenics open tournament on December 24. Organized annually by the Fund Forum and Forum Junior Sport children’s complex, this year’s tournament will feature young gymnasts not only from Tashkent’s sports clubs but also regional schools.

The Young Entrepreneurs School had its winter training session on December 4-8 at Tashkent’s Sayohat Hotel. Fifty young people engaged in entrepreneurship from all regions of Uzbekistan attended the School’s winter session. The training session was organized by the Fund Forum and Kelajak ovozi Youth Initiative Center with support from Microcreditbank and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

Film made in Uzbekistan premieres in Moscow

Last week “Vysotski. Thank you for living”, a film directed by Pyotr Buslov and dedicated to the life of the late singer-songwriter Vladimir Vysotsky, premiered in Moscow. According to the film makers, the Fund Forum provided support in creating the film. The main episodes in the film were shot in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.

Children`s healthcare facility reconstructed

A newly built child cancer care section at the National Cancer Research Center, an effort funded by Mehr Nuri Foundation, “In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association and the Women`s Council, was inaugurated on December 7 in Tashkent. The brand new facility, which has been fitted with up-to-date equipment, is able to take in twice as many children as before, for therapies and surgeries.

On November 21, the Youth Creativity Palace will host an event to unveil the results of the Fund Forum’s major youth project Kelajak ovozi 2011 (Voice of the future) Talented Youth Contest. The finalists of the contest will do presentations of their projects before the Public Council. Concurrently, an adjacent venue will be hosting the Fund Forum’s online report conference. Also, the winners of youth-oriented grant programs – the Educational Grants Program, the Program of Scholarships for Talented Students and the Sports Grants Program – will be honored.
