As many as 20,000 people joined the Susan G. Komen Uzbekistan Race for the Cure on May 1 to say no to breast cancer. Organized by Fund Forum, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the National Breast Cancer Association and the Women's Council, the race sought raise public awareness of breast cancer and raised funds to support efforts in Uzbekistan to fight the disease, which claims millions of lives worldwide.

Moscow hosted Uzbek Culture Evening organized by Fund Forum. The event presented a special project – a photo exhibition which focused on the succession of generation and veneration of traditions, a theme characteristic of Uzbekistan. The Evening drew a host of guests who honor Uzbek art and many Russian public figures.

As in previous years, the upcoming Asrlar Sadosi (Echo of Centuries) Festival of Traditional Culture, a collaborative effort between Fund Forum and the UNESCO Tashkent Office, offers a broad variety of exciting events that will reflect Uzbek history, art and traditions. The Festival will be an opportunity to view exquisite applied art objects, to learn to make musical instruments, enjoy tightrope walker shows, to sample Uzbek culinary delights and to feast your eyes on masterfully crafted Uzbek national costumes among other activities.

Fund Forum has signed a cooperation memorandum with the Louvre, one of the world’s largest museums, marking a new phase in the bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and France in art.

With just 2 weeks to go until Susan G. Komen Uzbekistan Race for the Cure, a major fundraiser in support of breast cancer patients scheduled for May 1, the sale of race participant T-shirts kicked off at the Fund Forum office in Tashkent. Nearly 500 T-shirts have been sold on the first day of the sale, with crowds of would-be buyers lined up at the entrance to Fund Forum. The proceeds from the sale of T-shirts will go toward supporting breast cancer patients in Uzbekistan.

Tashkent’s first Ecological Park, a project based on the concept of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, opened its doors on April 7. A brainchild of Gulnara Karimova, the Ecopark has been built by the Fund Forum with support from Mitsubishi Corporation and has found good use for old car tires, plastic bottles and metal pipes in line with the principles of an ecology park. The Tashkent Ecopark, admission to which is free, is a unique place for people to research new ways of caring for the places where they live and work while engaging in leisure activities.

Thousands are set to immerse in pink action as Tashkent is bracing to host Susan G. Komen Uzbekistan Race for the Cure, a major fundraiser to be organized in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the biggest breast cancer charity in the US. Scheduled for May 1, the race will conclude the string of ongoing marathons in Uzbek regions. The funds raised will go toward helping breast cancer sufferers in Uzbekistan.

Kelajak ovozi Youth Initiatives Center has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Asociación Europea de Profesores de Español (The European Association of Teachers of Spanish) as part of an international conference titled “The Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture on the Silk Route”, currently under way in Tashkent.

A group of Uzbek celebrities are bracing to play a fundraising football game on April 23 at Tashkent’s JAR Stadium. The teams will include pop singers, film actors and Kelajak Ovozi YIC members, with famous Uzbek actor and film director Murod Rajabov set to comment the game. All proceeds from the sale of tickets to the friendly match will go toward supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Vienna’s Bezirksmuseum played host to a presentation of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential. The presentation, which highlighted the activities of Kelajak Tour and major projects overseen by the Fund Forum, drew members of the tourism industry, the academic and business community, and general public in the Austrian capital city.

A unique exhibition showcasing oriental calligraphy, miniature and the traditional art of Uzbekistan has been put together for the first time in Dubai, UAE, by the Fund Forum and Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. On display are manuscripts, rare museum exhibits and traditional applied art items representing Uzbekistan’s cultural and historical legacy.

Hotel Intercontinental in Madrid on March 29 hosted a reception to celebrate Navrouz holiday and 20 years since diplomatic ties between Uzbekistan and Spain were established. Also, a photo exhibition along with an information stand was mounted by the Fund Forum Representative Office in Madrid.

As many as 1,500 guests joined the celebration of Navrouz organized at the UN headquarters in New York by the Fund Forum Representative Office in New York and the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the US along with other countries that traditionally celebrate the holiday. The event program included a video presentation and a concert.

The fifth Asrlar Sadosi (Echo of centuries) Festival of Traditional Culture will be held on May 5-6 in Ellikqala District in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Tuproq Qala fortress and the world-famous Savistsky Museum of Art will become the central venues of the festival, which over the past 4 years has been a crossroads of traditions, arts, history and modernity. The festival is organized annually by the Fund Forum in collaboration with the UNESCO Tashkent Office

“In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) as part of the visit to South Korea by a group of Uzbek doctors that escorted a breast cancer patient for a charitable surgery at Hwasun Hopsital and familiarized themselves with medical practices of Korean doctors. The Memorandum seeks to help step up medical tourism through a strategic partnership between the two organizations.
