The results are in for the 6th Tashkent International Photo Biennale organized by Fund Forum and the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and held as part of Style.Uz Art Week 2012. Fifteen photographers in 6 categories have been honored with diplomas and prizes at an awards ceremony in the Central Showroom in Tashkent.

The week-long cinematic hoopla crescendoed into an eagerly-awaited awards ceremony for the winners on October 5 at Tashkent’s Turkiston Palace. Amidst floor-length dresses, bow ties, camera flashes and dazzling smiles alternating with moments of suspense, the closing ceremony for this year’s Cinema Forum doled out Golden Guepard statuettes.

The Theatre.UZ/2012 International Festival kicked off on October 1 at the Youth Theater of Uzbekistan as part of Style.Uz Art Week 2012. The theater festival will be held in the format of a creative lab and promises to be an engaging platform for creativity, exchange of international experience and demonstrating the efforts by not only Uzbek, but also international theater professionals and actors across the world.

On October 4, famous British singer and songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor will perform at Tashkent’s Palace of International Forums as part of Style.Uz Art Week 2012 following the opening ceremony for the week-long art-laden spectacular. The chart-topping disco diva, whose music balances crisply dance rhythms with 80s soul and pop dynamics, is set to add pizzazz to the major culture and art event.

The Style.Uz string of art shows will include ‘Magical Knots’ exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets, which will take place on October 8 at the Center of National Arts. The exhibition will present 60 exquisite carpets on loan from the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, echoing the country’s ancient art of carpet weaving embraced by the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

On September 15, Uzbekistan presented its pavilion at “Love Knows No Boundaries” annual charity fair at Beijing's Chaoyan Park. The funds raised by the fair will go toward providing equipment for hospitals treating eye-sight disorders. The Uzbek pavilion was set up by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China with support from Fund Forum Representative Office in Beijing.

American trumpeter and composer Chris Botti on September 26 will play a concert in Tashkent on the eve of this year’s Style.Uz Art Week in conjunction with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Uzbekistan. Part of the tickets to the concert by the jazz-pop-classical trumpet virtuoso and multiple Grammy nominee will be distributed free of charge among talented students, musicians and young designers in Uzbekistan.

Famous British abstract painter Annya Sand will present her artworks in Tashkent as part of Style.Uz Art Week 2012. The 17 paintings created by Sand from 2007 to 2011 will go on display at the Gallery of Fine Art. Scheduled for October 4-9, the Art Week will host prominent and up-and-coming artists while giving them an opportunity to strut their stuff, swap experience and draw inspiration for new artistic heights.

A series of presentations of Uzbekistan’s cultural and historical legacy, tourism potential, and traditional and applied art were held as part of WorldFest 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky (USA), which celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Uzbek cultural events were organized by the Fund Forum Representative Office in the USA with support from the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the United Nations.

The Fund Forum announces the start of its annual Pedagogical Grants Programme. Applications may be submitted from October 1 to December 1, 2012. The programme is open to teachers of secondary schools and high schools, lecturers of higher educational institutions as well as heads of higher educational institutions of all levels. Winners will be awarded prize money.

Performances of national Uzbek dances made part of the spectacular program of the International Festival of Music and Traditional Dance in Valencia (Spain). The colorful and memorable performance by the Uzbek group Sabo at the festival’s gala concert was organized by the Uzbek Embassy in Spain and the Fund Forum Representative Office in Madrid. The event also included a presentation of Fund Forum’s activities and the album “Fund Forum Presents Uzbekistan”.

Sixteen entrepreneurs in Termez, Karshi and Samarkand have been provided with credits to help implement socially significant business projects in regions in Uzbekistan. A credit certificate award ceremony has been held in each city. The credits are the result of the activities of the Forum of Socially Responsible Citizens of Uzbekistan (Social Forum), which seeks to support Uzbek citizens’ social initiatives.
