“Fund Forum Presents Uzbekistan”: in New York

A presentation of the book “Fund Forum Presents Uzbekistan” and a photo exhibition took place at the UN headquarters in New York City on the eve of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day.

The event organized with support from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United Nations and the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in New York was attended by roughly 200 people, including over 60 heads of diplomatic missions at the UN, over 30 general consuls as well as members of international organizations and the academic, business and cultural communities in the US.

The guests to the event included UN Under-Secretary-General Wu Hongbo, Director of the General Assembly and Economic and Social Council Affairs Division Ion Botnaru, leading expert of East West Institute R. Karam, editor-in-chief of Society & Diplomatic Review Gloria Starr Kins, Huffington Post videoblogger Michal Shapiro, the president of Turkistan American Association Abdullah Khwaja, the president of the Bukharian Jewish Congress Boris Kandov as well as representatives of the Uzbek diaspora and Uzbek students currently attending schools in the USA.

The exhibition features over 50 unique photos of contemporary and ancient Uzbekistan and has drawn a great interest from those attending. Many have noted that the event has been a virtual trip to Uzbekistan and to Silk Road cities with their unique architecture and has given them an opportunity to learn about Uzbek people’s culture, traditions and customs as well as applied art and craftsmanship.

A copy of the photo album “Fund Forum Presents Uzbekistan” was presented to the current President of the General Assembly Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser as well as to heads of Uzbek and Bukharian Jewish diasporas. The guests also had the opportunity to sample classical Uzbek meals.

Exhibitions showcasing images in the book have been previously organized in Beijing, Berlin, Geneva, London, Madrid, Moscow, Tokyo and Vienna, and have aroused a keen interest in Uzbekistan’s culture and ancient history.

The photo exhibition in New York City will run through September 2 and is available for foreign diplomats and staff of the UN agencies.
