Asrlar Sadosi Festival 2012 Agenda

As in previous years, the upcoming Asrlar Sadosi (Echo of Centuries) Festival of Traditional Culture, a collaborative effort between Fund Forum and the UNESCO Tashkent Office, offers a broad variety of exciting events that will reflect Uzbek history, art and traditions. The Festival will be an opportunity to view exquisite applied art objects, to learn to make musical instruments, enjoy tightrope walker shows, to sample Uzbek culinary delights and to feast your eyes on masterfully crafted Uzbek national costumes among other activities.

Day One – May 5

10.00 - 19.00 - Folk festivities, performances by folk music groups, an Applied Art Fair, national games (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

11.30 - Inauguration of a workshop on the creation of traditional musical instruments and a practical seminar on the creation of traditional musical instruments (58 B, Sagidulla Abbazov Str., Nukus City)

14.00 - Master classes by local scientists for Festival guests (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

15.00 - Roundtable “The Aral Sea Region: the Historical, Ecological and Social Aspects of the Region’s Development” (The Savitsky Museum of Art, Nukus City)

16.00 - National horse races, Camel and Akhal-Teke horse exhibition (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

17.00 - Contemporary art auction of MEROS Association of Antiques organized with support from Christie’s Russian Art Department and to be led by British auctioneer Edward Rising (The Savitsky Museum of Art, Nukus City) - admission by invitation only

Day Two – May 6

10.00 - 19.00 - Folk festivities, performances by folk music groups, an Applied Art Fair, national games (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

10.00 - 14.00 - National Cuisine Festival (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

11.30 - Kurash national wrestling tournament (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

15.30 - Uloq-kopkari horse-riding game (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

16.00 - Traditional rooster fights (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District))

16.30 - Traditional ram fights (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

18.00 - National Dress Festival (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)

19.30 - Gala concert (Tuproq-Qala Fortress, Ellikqala District)
